The point is: to make friends, you need to be a friend. The OP wants to come into an already established circle, and seems to not realize that BNF status is fleeting. It smacks of "Don't you KNOW who I AM?", the way they describe how they attempted to find where current fandom hangs out.

I used to solely lurk in my current fandom. But when I returned a few years ago, I decided I would come out of my shell. I didn't contact authors. I didn't message anyone.

I started posting fic.

Now from that fic, I have a strong circle of fandom friends.

This, exactly.

I agree. I don't have a fandom presence, I don't write fic but I read and lurk, and I'm pretty sure I know who OP is, I've seen her around on ontd recently.

If I'm right, it's really disappointing that she thinks she'll be welcomed back with fanfare after disappearing for several years. Fandom doesn't work like that, and at this point she's just embarrassing herself. Pity, because I don't remember her as an asshole.

If she'd have just posted the fic, she could have made new friends eventually. But that requires patience and less delusions of grandeur.
