(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)The story itself is decent, but as for Scar's story being "subtle feminism".... Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. On the one hand, it's not very subtle. On the other, she spends much of her time needing to be rescued, to the injury and even deaths of her male compatriots, far, far more often than any of them do (even Twig). I don't know if I can get behind it. Sure, she stands up for herself in the end, but that's about it.
Also, the weeping. Why is she always the one crying? The last scene, yeah, but shouldn't James be crying about Ben instead?
In before "OH SO FEMALE CHARACTERS ARE ~NEVER~ ALLOWED TO BE RESCUED AND CAN ~NEVER~ CRY?!?!?!?!1111". Yes. Yes, because that's exactly what I said.
