I hardcore ship Poe/Finn but I kinda ship Kylo/Rey and Kylo/Poe (and Kylo/Finn lmao whoops) and I ran into so much ship hate on tumblr. It was amazing. Apparently shipping Kylo is just unacceptable. Unless it's with Hux, then it's okay.

I've seen ship hate before but never so intensely about something I ship, haha.

There's a pretty strong contigent of Kylo/Rey shippers. Though a fair number of them are only shippers provided they aren't related (and so are setting themselves up for disaster).

At least they admit they like it for the fucked up dynamics and aren't trying to turn this into some mushy bullshit like I saw on the from my outlying fringe seat of, say, the Hannibal fandom.

I'm fine with shipping fucked up ships so long as that's how it's treated. Fucked up. I'd even be behind Reylo for that same reason.

But ick if anyone makes it ~romantic~!

I mainly ship Poe/Finn, but sometimes their ship gets a bit too fluffy. I'm sure once fandom's had some time, once we know more about them, we'll get stuff with more meat, but now it's all sweetness and light it seems.

So, I think that's why I first read a Poe/Kylo fic. I didn't understand why anyone would ship them first, until someone brought up the possibility of them having been friends once. Because I do want that background in fics. Or I've read one where they only really met after he's been redeemed and start to become friends. I like that idea too.

Anyway, I don't think you should feel too bad. Every ship has different dynamics. Even if they seem very similar on the surface, there's probably a difference somewhere. You wouldn't judge someone else for shipping what they ship (hopefully?), so why should you judge yourself?

Reading all the comments above, I am once again amazed at the secret the other day that felt that fandom looked down on shipping and/or romance fic. Shipping seems to be one of the bigger drivers of fandom activity.

The first time I came out of the movie I definitely wanted to see angsty, torture fic for them, but unlike you, I was pleasantly surprised to find so much fic that focuses on them before Ren went to the dark side. (No matter how unlikely I find that, given the impression the dialogue gave me about how old he would've been when he left + the bit of the script I've seen about his family being shocked to see him as a grown man.)

So, I feel you, but I enjoy that both exist.

Kylo and Finn are the only good characters in the movie, Poe was nice for a secondary character too.
