Re: Can we have a gender general thread?

Congrats on the pregnancy! (And I thought I was literally the only person on FS who isn't childfree...)

Though, I have a boy and a girl (both school-aged now) and... honestly I've been surprised by how they've 'naturally' fallen into gender roles despite my best efforts. I've tried to gently nudge them away from being all "boys=trucks" and "girls=frocks" etc, but they seem determined to fit into those moulds all on their own.

(I mean, realistically it's not all on their own, parents aren't the sole or even the main influence to the extent people like to think. They're picking it up from peers, from TV, from pretty much everyone they ever talk to.)

I don't push the issue with them too much, I'm hoping it's something they'll grow out of as they get older. Or, of course, it's possible that I just have a boy who's genuinely naturally inclined to Star Wars and Transformers and battle scenes and a girl who's genuinely naturally inclined to cute animals and princessy frocks and dancing... as long as they're not shaming other people for having different values, that's fine too.
