Bookmarking

I just realized that 2016 will be the five year anniversary of when Delicious was in Mustache Land (aka when in October 2011 the new owners of Delicious broke the site for a few months).

Thinking about that makes me curious what you use for your bookmarking needs now and your thoughts on the aftermath.

I just use my internet browser and folders within folders within folders and AO3 for fics.

I did reorganize my folders recently to rationalize the system and it's a lot cleaner and more useful now.

Yeah I dumped a TON of links from my bookmarks, mostly old webcomics I don't read anymore. TBH I'm not 100% sure why I still use bookmarks.

I mean it's nice to be able to have a place to hang on to links you refer to frequently, or to build lists of different sites and stuff like that. So it's useful in that sense.

It's just that it works best when you're using it for very specific reasons, and not just saving every single thing you come across that's interesting. So instead of just having a bunch of big crappy folders it's now just "here are some restaurants i want to visit, here are some books i want to read, etc".

I could probably use cloud based stuff to accomplish some of that stuff but this is more convenient for me, so.

Yeah, that's true. Some of my remaining bookmarks are reference stuff and I have a couple folders with links to mods for Fallout 3 and New Vegas as I intend to go through them again this year.

Pinboard for all my bookmarks and ao3 for any fic I really want to share.

That October I did what a bunch of other people did. I tried to tough it out on Delicious for a while. When that failed I tried Diigo which didn't go any better. Then I heard about Pinboard from a friend who was switching over and gave that a shot. I wish it were a touch more social, but I have ao3 and tumblr for that.

Recently the owner said that Pinboard is going down for a month in February or something, I suspect the worst.

I never even understood what Delicious was. I just bookmark things in browsers.
