Grandma is in the hospital, and she's 91. So I'll probably spend a lot of time there.

We're close in that she lives in my town and I do my best to be a dutiful grandchild, visit her as much as possible, joke around with her, make her laugh. But I don't know. I'm also just always aware of how old she is, and for the past few years she's been struggling more and more. Of course I love her and I hope everything is okay... but how do I explain it? It'll seem "natural" if she doesn't make it, too.

My grandpa was 93 when he passed. It was a pretty rough death, too. Enjoy the time you have with your grandma.

At 91 nobody can say she hasn't had a long, likely eventful life. And if she has a loving grandchild around to visit and talk to then she must have done SOMETHING right. There comes of point where the sadness of someone's death is softened by the fact that they lived a full and happy life and it's just time for them to pass on.

I'm assuming your Grandma had a full and happy life of course.

Aging is a hard process for everyone involved. It is great that you visit her regularly. It may make you uncomfortable (which is normal) but you would probably regret it more if you didn't.

And I expect it seems natural because it is.
