Am I the only one who interprets this character as being a brainwashed member of a cult? Because I strongly got that vibe, and no on else seems to be discussing it.

It's all "he's an evil jerkass" or "he's a poor woobie."

I got that too, especially from the novelization.

How's the novelization? I'm reading Before The Awakening right now but I was planning on checking out the movie novel afterwards.

It is really good. Not quite as good as the Revenge of the Sith novelization, but still really good. It expands on the movie pleasingly.

I'd say so, the "Dark Side" is pretty cult-like. That, or I imagine him as the metaphorical drug addict. Like, even if there is some good in him, he was the one who chose it and he's too far gone to be saved.

Oh, definitely. I mean, he makes me lol but I think he's a bit tragic because he's been seduced to the Dark Side even though he had everything going for him in the Light.

Not to minimize what he's done and I hope he gets taken down, obviously, but yeah.

Haven't read the novelization yet, but considering Leia's comments about Snoke I think it's a possibility. I did at least feel like there's a lot in his backstory that we're completely clueless too, and probably a lot more is going on with Kylo and Snoke then we currently know.

Doesn't mean people can't be upset with him, but I'm at least really interested in knowing more about him (And seeing who he turns into).

Nah, JJ said he was just a misguided youth with too much potential that was 'confused' about what to do with it. I love Kylo Ren, but make no mistake, he's just a douchebag.

Even if that's the case, I've enjoyed the character and imagine I will continue enjoying him! (I'll once again mention Maul and that he has none of Kylo's personality or complexity yet I still like him, lol.)

We'll just have to see, I suppose!
