You know, someone left a comment on a secret a few weeks back that was essentially "Well, if you want a rarepair to be less rare, start writing it yourself." Initially I was like "Hey, man, fuck you. It doesn't always work like that." But, then, like a week later someone left a comment on one of my rarepair fics saying I'd inspired them to write for that pairing, which they did. And, today, someone did art of my rarepair OTP (probably because I don't fucking shut up about them). So, you know, sometimes getting the ball rolling with a rarepair can inspire others to join in with you. I've seen it happen in my current fandom with other pairings too. The pair may never be big, but you might generate some interest in active fandom by just talking about them or writing about them or drawing them.

I have no writing ability. And yes, I could totally dedicate a year or so learning to write. But I have a job and other hobbies that I would enjoy doing.

Yeah, I get that not everyone can write. Shit, I can hardly write. Just posting about the rarepair or talking about in online spaces can get people interested too.

NA I think it is my comment you are referring to above; thanks! I stand by it and I hope no one thinks fiction is written without hard labor.

Even most badfic are probably written while the authors push their skill limits to hurtful degrees. It is never easy if you really try to make it readable, but it can be fun when you write about a subject you love.

Another good thing with fanfic is that you can get away with drabbles: fun or haunting ideas translated through just a few sentences. Surely anyone can manage that? And think about the impact for your rarepair!
