30, I live with my parents and don't pay for anything...

(Anonymous) 2016-01-11 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
At their request, to save money. I make six figures and save six figures a year. I hope to hit $800k and retire from the 9-5 workforce by 35.

People who judge at the first sentence never find out the rest.

IMO, other people's financial situations are nobody else's business.

I agree. But the instant judgments from others when they hear 'living with parents at 30' aren't based on financial situation. They're based on the useless worthless loser stereotype.

Damn, anon, all my envy.

Similar situation here (although I DO pay for some things with my "pocket change").

I work for a family business so our income is all coming out of the same source. It makes more sense (for tax reasons and also ease of accounting) for me to get paid as little as possible, and for them to instead just cover my costs.

I still work for a living, and realistically I'm one of the most financially secure people in my social circle.

Do the people in your social circle judge you for it?

Do you find that the internet does?

My friends know how hard I work, and how much money my family has, so not really. And most of the rest of my social circle are very business-minded and base their judgements less on how independent you seem by some arbitrary lower class standard, and more on how successful you actually are.

I don't really talk about it on the internet, outside of anon and the occasional ambiguous tumblr post. People DO judge if you live with your 'rents, and certainly if "they" are paying for most of your expenses. I dont' really have the time or energy to correct every person's misconceptions about my life.

In a somewhat similar situation here, although I do pay for most of my own things... my mother is going to be receiving a sizable inheritance sometime in the next year once all of the legal matters are settled, and one of the things she wants to do with it is sell the house that will be a part of it and buy my sister and I each a condo. So there's no point in me moving out into an apartment that I'd only be in for a year at most when I could stay at home and save up the money that would otherwise go to rent until I get my own place.

What do you do for a living, anon? I'm rethinking all of my life choices (what's new).

Sorry, answering that would give me away. I've posted on here about my field before.

*raises hand* Also (almost) 30 and living with parents, and also for a financial reason. I'm throwing half of my pay check every month at my student loans and saving the rest minus minor expenses.

This will allow me to get a decent savings started, and my payment plan will have all of my loans paid in another year and a half, so I can move out completely debt-free.
