Saitama/Genos is my fave OPM ship but I actually kind of dig Saitama/MR as well simply because I found their interactions pretty cute, that and Mumen Rider is such a sweetheart omg, either way shippy or not I like seeing them interact.

I don't get Saitama/Sonic at all but I'm wondering if that's something from the manga that I'm missing(as I only watched the anime).

DA, but I don't think you're missing anything from the manga, honestly. Sonic hasn't done anything much different from what you've seen in the anime - shown up a few more times going after Saitama, gets beat down in some way, vanishes again to plot for the next time.

I mean, the next significant time he shows up, Genos is the one who fights him so that he won't bother Saitama (and also to test out his new arms). Ends up cutting off Sonic's little tied-up bit of hair, which seriously pisses him off, oops.

But yeah, not getting the Sonic/Saitama. I can see Saitama/Mumen Rider, but I like their friends-dynamic more. Saitama/Genos all the way for meee <3

Ahaa. Huh, well rival ships are definitely a thing that happens in fandom so even if it doesn't work for me I get why it'd crop up. And I don't go looking for it so it doesn't really bother me.

Omg, okay I need a 2nd anime season just so I can see this, I need to see this and see Sonic being super-pissy over it. That and new arms for Genos, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Oh yeah their friends-dynamic is great and frankly I liked that he genuinely made another friend outside of Genos on his own, its probably part of the reason why it appeals to me as a ship tbh. (Saitama/Genos does own my heart the most though, gaawwwd).

AYRT Oh yeah, good point re: rival ships. But in that case it feels more like a one-sided thing on Sonic's part. Saitama's perpetually "meh" about him while Sonic's just constantly chasing after him XD

Spoilerish: It's such a funny part (to me) because Sonic starts to go even faster at that point so Genos can't keep up with him, and Genos decides the best response to that is to just blow up the whole street. So Saitama promptly knocks Genos down because "it's troublesome if you blow things up in front of the house!"

[/spoilers]

I really like that Mumen Rider's the only one (I think?) who appreciates Saitama but also doesn't actually want anything from him. Like, Bang and Fubuki keep trying to get him to join them, and Genos basically barged into Saitama's life and refused to leave, but MR's just... accepting. Which is probably why I don't mind the ship, though I still like them better as friends. I like to imagine them just being super-supportive of each other, like Saitama really respecting MR's ideals and MR really respecting Saitama's strength aahhhh they're so cute <3

But yes, Saitama/Genos owns me too. I should be working on an essay and what am I doing instead? Writing... *counts* 24 pages so far of Saitama/Genos fic instead ahahahah =___=;;

Sort of spoilers

Hm, yeah it still doesn't appeal to me but it could definitely work as a one-sided thing from Sonic's end.

Genos decides the best response to that is to just blow up the whole street.

OF COURSE HE WOULD. JFC GENOS YOU NEED A LEASH.

Mumen is really sweet. In the last episode of the anime where he was helping to evacuate bystanders because he knew that was where he would be most useful, just, my heart you precious small child. Awwww, yeah them being supportive of each other is something I totally love as well, yay for supportive friendships!

Who needs real life when you have OTP's?? /cries for eternity

I would totally not be interested in reading that when you're done, nope, not at all.

I'm just really not interested in rival-shipping in general, sooo *goes back to Saitama/Genos corner and ignores Sonic* =D

Genos does not know the meaning of the word overkill, no. More spoilers for that fight! Saitama and Fubuki were concurrently fighting because he'd once again rejected her "offer" to join her group, and they got caught in the backwash of one of Genos' attacks. Saitama moves between her and the attack to protect her (ding! one more person just went *__* at Saitama). Genos shows up, sees Fubuki, and is all smirks, like "Ah, so you challenged sensei and ended up in this pitiful state?" and Saitama's just "... No. That's cos of you."

[/spoilers]

Mumen's just a good person. But also - every other hero in the series is shown constantly thinking about how to advance, how strong they are, etc. Mumen's the only one who doesn't think that. He doesn't want to move up to B-rank because he knows he's not strong enough for that. He doesn't have an inflated sense of ego. He's the most grounded character there is, which is a huge part of why I like him, and also part of the reason why I think he'd make a great friend for Saitama. <3

Hahah we'll see. I haven't posted anything I've written in a couple of years now, but... maybe! ^^;

I get that, I can rival-ship sometimes but it depends on how it's done in the canon, I do think it's more hit or miss for me than the friends/allies to lovers dynamic though.

He really doesn't, honestly it's part of the reason I love him so much. Oh a bug? VAPORISE THE STREET. Good job Genos.

Yes, yes! Everything you've written here is why I adore him so much too, he is completely aware of his limitations and unlike a lot of the other heroes, really is just an ordinary guy, no special powers or weapons but still does his job because it's the right thing to do. /cuddles Mumen Rider

Well if you want to post it you already have someone who would very much be interested, but that's entirely up to you and what you're more comfortable with. :)

Honestly I think you hit on why I personally don't like the whole MR/Saitama thing. I hate that whenever someone shows ANY interest in another character that it automatically has to be exploited for romantic/sexual tension. With a character like Genos? I get it. He's pretty obsessed, and Saitama seems receptive enough to Genos in his life that it doesn't feel weird for me at least when people ship them.

But like...it's just shown that MR has faith in Saitama and people just jumped all over that shit. I sometimes feel like people have a hard time not imagining all the semi-reasonably attractive characters are boning one another. Like why can't Saitama and MR just have cute little noodle get togethers as friends without it needing to be this whole "yeah they totally want to bone" thing?

(This next part is only very tangentially related.) I dunno to be honest Saitama feels kind of...not asexual to me, but he's very neutered as a protagonist. It's not that I couldn't imagine him enjoying sex or finding people sexually appealing, but for all the "oppai" shirts and porno mags, there's something there that I can't quite put my finger on. I want to say "demisexual" but...I dunno.

AYRT

It is why I both don't mind and don't want the Saitama/MR ship, tbh. I have the same response as you in that I wish more characters could be friends without being instantly shipped. I think they work so well as supportive friends, and not quite so much as romantic partners.

But at the same time, I'm so totally done with rival-shipping/hate-shipping/etc that I can't hate the pairing? I like it when a ship comes from a place of mutual respect, and Saitama/MR at least has that going for it. (I'm the anon who responded just below to the ZoSan ship, fwiw.) Possibly my not-minding is coming from a place of "it could be worse" hahah.

I have complicated feelings about Saitama's sexuality. I actually can see him as ace, or gray-ace, possibly demi. But then, I also read him as depressed, and so part of me goes "maybe that's why he has pretty much no sex drive?" I feel like it's something that might change if ever his depression began to improve. So yeah, complicated feelings.

Simple answer: because shippers gonna ship.

Honestly I expect any close-friend pair to get shipped at least a little bit, it's easy to translate into a romantic relationship when there's already a groundwork of affection and trust to work with. Doesn't mean that I like every single pair this happens to but at the same time it doesn't really bother me because even if I don't ship it I can usually see why someone else would.

But you don't have to like it either, that's cool.

Ah I don't know what I think on Saitama's sex-drive(or apparent lack thereof). I've seen points on him being asexual or depressed and I think both interpretations could work, I think I'd leave that in the hands of people better equipped with ideas on that front.
