Thinking of my crackiest ship . . .

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-01-12 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
One character is very embedded in a particular routine and dynamic that contributes to her emotional issues. She's typically shipped with people in close proximity to her who clearly care about her and want to help her. But I feel like if they could somehow save her, they would have already done so. It seems like her best chance for a stable, mutual relationship is with someone outside the existing dynamic, and there aren't a lot of unattached adult characters she could believably get along with.

(Actually, this gets me thinking. There is another character who could probably be shipped with her, who I have never seen shipped with any other character, and unlike my usual ship, he has no preexisting grudge or rivalry with her group. Pearl/Jamie OTP? Nope, not really.)

Out of curiosity, is the "usual ship" Jaspearl or Lapearl?

Lapearl. Jasper isn't Pearl's type, to say the least.

Pearl is such a hard character to ship, isn't she? She's still not over Rose, and that hangs over all her other pairings.

Oddly, I like Lapearl aesthetically (I like most Gem ships aesthetically and casually), but I feel like she's maybe too similar to Pearl in certain ways? Too morose and tending to wallow in negative feelings about themselves and their circumstances? Whereas, I feel like if/when Jasper is brought around to the star side, she and Pearl could be quite good for each other. But I tend to like "opposites attract" style ships in personality and appearance. At least we know Pearl likes big Gems.

She IS a tough nut to crack. She and the other Crystal Gems have been so set in their patterns and dynamics for so long. They are growing and changing in their relationships, and I do think the others are helping Pearl tiptoe through her issues, but I don't see them as providing that specifically romantic and special connections that she so clearly wants. It'll definitely have to be someone outside the current family, whether it's a Gem we've met so far or not.

And then there's Lapis, who I don't ship seriously with anyone despite the fact that she's my favorite. Might be equal parts wanting to know more about her and not finding anyone "good enough" for my girl.

Okay but what about Blue Pearl x Pearl?

Blue Pearl looked interested when she heard about the Renegade Pearl, and then sad when she heard Sapphire say they would fail. Think of how much hope Pearl probably brings to Blue Pearl. She's probably to Blue, what Rose was to her. Imagine her inspiring Blue Pearl and wanting to live up to that and it forces her to move on.
