"They all act so victimized".
Welp, right there you're telling an untruth. I've never acted victimized over shipping a rarepair. I don't mind it if my rarepair doesn't catch on at all; it just means I don't have to deal with a bunch of weird fanon for my pairings or de rigueur tropes I'm expected to use.
For a lot of series I prefer my own fic and never bother reading anyone else's, whether it's a juggernaut ship or a tiny one.

Mostly I see this on tumblr, and if that's the case, just ... unfollow or block or tumblr savior or something? There's a lot of options. Fandom is often what you make of it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)I don't get the appeal of jumping all those hoops just to imagine a couple of flavor-of-the-month dudes together. Why not write some original fiction that pushes all your buttons from the start???

Anyway, for a lot of people, shipping isn't contingent on there being content for the ship; it's contingent on them feeling something for the pairing. And that feeling doesn't necessarily go away when the fanworks run dry.
Also, I'd say it's annoying when people aggressively hate on ships in general.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)With big ships you have a ton of ship-tropes to rely on which can make writing them feel uncreative.
With a crackpair you have to think how the characters of those two people you ship would actually interact with each other. You have to get the psychology behind it right, because there is no actual background to rely on.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:12 am (UTC)(link)(in fact it's the big juggernauts where the small delusional percentage is large enough to really whip itself and sometimes also more reasonable shippers into a frenzy, see: J2 tinhatters, sterek, etc)
2) no matter how annoyed you are at rareshippers resenting popular pairings, I *promise* you they have to put up with a jillion times more of the thing they don't like
3) literally by definition there is not much of the thing you dislike. LET IT GO.gif

For that matter, I thought that exploring character relationships outside of the limited and frequently monochrome palette offered by "canon" was the whole point of shipping.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:28 am (UTC)(link)For me, I don't ship anything unless I see a scene where I go "aha! Sparks!" So yeah, they need interaction, and some of that interaction has to feel intimate. It doesn't necessarily have to be the center stage pair, or a canon pair, it just have to feel like the characters intimately connected.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:45 am (UTC)(link)People don't control how many people ship their ship, and there's no reason they shouldn't ship it or don't get to enjoy it because there's not as many people in it, and you don't like rarepairers.

Also you sound awfully angry over other people shipping what they want and producing stuff for their preferred ship. So what f it's small or crack or rare? They are having fun so don't be a so salty and let them be.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)People can ship what they like, regardless of character interaction. That's why fanfiction is so popular, it gives you what you won't find in canon.

My rare-pairs on the other hand are ships that do make sense in their canons but the canon itself isn't well known or popular so they don't get much love. But I don't get angry at others for not knowing them, can't stop shipping them though and sometimes I wish they had more fic but eh, what can you do?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 01:03 am (UTC)(link)Then again it seems kind of trendy now for that kind het shippers to call any ship that isn't theirs "crack", like the Clintasha shippers.
no subject
(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)I agree with the above, crack ship does not equal rare pair. Also, it's not like there aren't a bunch of fairly common pairings where the characters have little to no interaction.
Mycroft/Lestrade, Papyrus/Mettaton, etc.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-12 01:21 am (UTC)(link)Burn me alive.
Thinking of my crackiest ship . . .
(Actually, this gets me thinking. There is another character who could probably be shipped with her, who I have never seen shipped with any other character, and unlike my usual ship, he has no preexisting grudge or rivalry with her group. Pearl/Jamie OTP? Nope, not really.)

The sort of shippers you seem to resent are probably the noisy ones, pushy twits who want more fic from everywhere and shove their ship in people's faces. (Okay, I might chatter about my ship a lot but I don't really expect anything, from anyone.)
You just need to calm the fuck down about this, and block anyone who gets in your face about a rare or cracky ship (and no, they're not the same thing).
