Sorry everyone out there who will defend rape in fanfiction as harmless fantasy, but I can honestly understand how it would offend someone to the point of making this secret. To all of you who have said "Learn the difference between fantasy and reality" and generally been patronizing, haven't you ever gotten upset and said something exaggerated that you half meant, or didn't actually mean? I can agree that people have the right to choose what they read and write, and this particular poster doesn't have to read rape fiction. But having a strong emotional response to something like rape in any medium (film, writing, music) is also that person's right. I'm not saying I wish rape or anytying else on anyone, nor do I agree with the sentiment. But being enraged over something like rape is a lot more sane and humanly than whining over canon vs. fanon or bickering over fucking DeathNote.

And in my personal opinion, dealing with your rape issues by simulating another rape (through BDSM or whatever) or reading about it on a regular basis, does not make you a well adjusted or sane individual. I'm not asking for people to agree with it, but you're all being awfully intolerant and insensitive, and I at least want that secret poster to know that not everyone is pissed off at them for expressing their opinion about a trauma. Christ on a bike.

Don't kid yourself, the OP of that secret is a hypocrite. S/he is getting off on the idea of rape, too, only it's the idea of REAL PEOPLE being raped as a revenge for their FANTASIES. That's far more sick and disgusting than fictional rape could ever be.

I'm pretty sure that OP means that you might not find it such a fun subject matter if you had the experience for yourself. Just like you can't understand his/her rage, s/he can't unerstand your infatuation or interest in rape fantasies.

I understand his/her stupid fucking rage. I've been dealing with douchebags who are unable to get the idea that rape fantasies are not and never have been about the desire to be raped or see other people raped in RL since I joined internet fandom ten years ago. It's this kind of stupid inability to separate fantasy from reality that results in suppression of freedom of expression and stupid fucking "zero tolerance" policies that get people in trouble all the damn time. Fuck that. I'm sick of that shit.

Sure and that's why most rapefics are warned for. And those who don't warn for rape in their fics deserve whatever pillorying they get.

However, there's a huge difference between having a strong emotional response against rape in any medium, and making unfounded and monumentally unfair judgments about the people who don't have that response. The first does not make the second less asshatty.

Oh PLEASE. This secret wouldn't be getting nearly the kind of flames it's getting if the poster hadn't said "I ALMOST WISH YOU'D ALL GET RAPED" to the people who can, hello, distinguish between fantasy and reality (sorry to repeat it, but it's a valid point). Get off your high horse, and while you're at it, take the OP with you. Not liking a kink? No prob, that's your right. Thinking the people who do are sick and disgusting? To each their own, but whatevs. Wishing rape on them? No. Not fucking kosher.
