17. In The Forests Of The Night, by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. If having a somewhat Suetastic vampire novel to return to when you're feeling down is what you meant by "finding your Twilight"? THAT THERE BE MINE. Risika > Bella, any day. (...yeah I'm bein' a bitch with this. I'm sorry, it's just... there are vampire novels out there that are just as girl-friendly, just as totally not Ann Rice, but better written. Sadly Atwater-Rhodes really went downhill a few novels later....)

25. Wow. Wow. How about you take a little walk outside of Mummy and Daddy's basement, get away from the computer. Breathe outside air. Talk to people. Realize that no matter what it might look like through that glowing magic screen that lets you see the rest of the world, people are not their kinks.

And, y'know. Some survivors still write non-con, and find it kinda hot. Not that you'd know my fandom, but... possessed-by-Canaletto!Jordan x Eva? Hell yes, moar plz. As long as it's well-written and not translated French badfic and we actually get to see the psychological fallout.... God knows I do. Guess I deserve to be raped again, by your logic?

So sorry for not being a wilting little easily-fit-into-a-box flower, forever torn apart and dirtied by what we all know is the only way to break a woman.

I hope you have a very, very unfortunate accident involving a bicycle seat.

74. ...so you're the Sylarfreak?

17. Wasn't the next book about a vampire novel author who had written the first book then had the bad guy from the first book fall in love with her?* That was the more perfect Mary Sue ever. Ah, highschool days.

*and she was the daughter of the more powerful vampire ever.

Yeah, it was... I cringe at the memories. (Risika was so much cooler!) Ah, wasted potential....

17. I've never heard of this novel before. It's obvious you like it, so I won't ask for a recommendation, but what's it about?

Re: 17

[identity profile] flamingly-fey.livejournal.com 2008-02-29 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's about a vampire, her memories, and her frustrated quest for vengeance on the "witches" who killed her (psychic) brother and forced her into being turned.

I can't really do it justice, I'm afraid. It's a beautiful little book, and Atwater-Rhodes' take on the vampire mythos, while still "okay, humans got it wrong", doesn't make them invulnerable.

Heh, thanks. I think "heartless bitch" might be more apt than "fantastic", but... well, thank you. Think that's the first time anyone's called me that.

I meant in terms of the way you handle what happened to you. It's really inspiring, the way you refuse to let it define you, or even to let society define it. That's why you're fantastic.

Thank you. It's taken six years, but... I can stand up again.
