A quick look at fanfiction.net says there's 312 crossovers (it's easier to check than Ao3.)

So someone, at least, has had the same thought! (No guarantee of quality.)

The Z cheeks are so cute in anime. I wish they were more commonly used.
I imagine there are Pokemon/Harry Potter crossovers, with both series being so popular. Whether they get into the lightning bolt scars or not I can't say.

The real question is, which Pokémon would Voldemort train?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
He would be obsessed with Arceus, but would never be able to even get close.
Maybe he could have some experience with Mewtwo but his attempt to control train him would end badly.

Seviper, obviously. (Not Arbok - Seviper is a better choice IMO.) Maybe Cofagrigus? He definitely has a connection to death, and Cofagrigus fits that well. Definitely at least one or two Ghost-types.

Absol also comes to mind, given its designation as the Disaster Pokemon.

A Psychic-type, because of his aptitude for Legilimency. Hypno would be fitting - or perhaps Musharna, with the connection to dreams.

I actually think he would be bothered by ghost types and avoid them.

Maybe. He does fear death, does he not? But I think he'd get a sort of sick pleasure from using them - ghosts exist in HP-verse; imagine if Voldy located the ghost of someone he'd killed or who had otherwise been an enemy, and found out how to exploit them? I think he'd be all over that.

Wouldn't Absol fit Harry more? Absol, for the most part, are not mean spirited or evil pokemon. they are usually very kind pokemon and are very good at predicting bad things so they can warn people. That's how it got it's reputation. Harry kind of has that same "danger/disaster follows him everywhere" while he's in school, so I think he'd relate to it more. And, not to mention, since it such a misunderstood pokemon, that would kind of tie into his friendship with Luna and how she explains how Thestrals are pretty misunderstood.

These are good points.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes that's great!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly never noticed the cheek z's until right now. It can no longer be unseen.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, cheek marks were such a thing in 90's anime. I don't really know why they were a thing or what they were meant to represent (just give a rugged look?). I don't think they are really a thing in 2000's, 2010's anime.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
They're supposed to denote youthfulness and innocence. But that doesn't explain why no one else has them.

Ooooh I gotta find that cracky post full of cheek-Z theories

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
In addition to "signifies youthfulness/cheerfulness" there's:

-because Pikachu (lightning bolts)

-freckles

-scars from something in early childhood

-tattoo markings with unexplained Kanto region cultural significance

-hereditary birthmarks that signify he comes from a forgotten ancestral line of aura warriors

-an invisible marker that only the audience can see that mark him as a chosen one around whom ridiculous and terrible shit always inexplicably focuses and congregates and who is a sort of sacrificial offering for the Legendary pokemon to mess around with and use as a tool to bring balance to the universe etc

-really sharp cheekbones

-warpaint ancient pokemon trainers used to use to identify themselves, no trainers in modern times do it anymore except Ash, because he's a dork like that

-they have a practical function, like the electricity-generating spots on Pikachu's cheeks, but Ash doesn't realize this yet

-all humans in the Pokemon universe have unique markings, like cutie marks from My Little Pony, but most people don't have them somewhere as visible as the cheeks. They symbolize a pokemon that each human has a special affinity for - Ash's are lightning bolts, symbolizing Pikachu

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
D... do you think you can find the link to the full list of theories like those? They seem to be spawning plunnies for me.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
IDK what they are or why they're part of his design, but I'm glad they exist because they're frickin' adorable.

(Incidentally I'm kind of sad that the slicker modern animation style makes the Z's less visible that the more dark&coarse-lined '90s/early'00s style)

z'_'z

The Ash emoticon

And it looks even cuter in the reply screen:
z'_'z

Like a baby Galvantula! Or a really tired Meowth!

I'll let myself out

For some reason this fills me with joy to look at. So cute. Rather like rewatching Pokemon itself I guess...

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Also didn't his mirror-universe counterpart have backwards z's?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Never saw that joke before. Cracks me up!
