Personally I think it's funny, if a little immature.

Why would people read a 12-word fic anyway?

mte

and why would people who don't ship reylo click on this story? I'm assuming the people who like it aren't reylo fans? I'm confused, tbh

Because either they want to see what is there, or they're idiots who never look at word counts.

Why does not looking at wordcounts make someone an idiot?

Eh, okay, overstatement then. Though sometimes checking the wordcount is useful when you're looking for a nice long story, or at least not looking for drabbles.

No kidding. This "fic" would fit into a tweet with room to spare.

To be fair, I've seen "fics" of short length that were actually fanart. Granted 1) I don't understand why anyone would use AO3 for art when dA and tumblr exist and 2) those that are there anyway rarely advertise themselves as fics but hey.

A lot of the fanart on AO3 is part of exchanges or big bangs.

Ah, that explains things. Thanks! /o/

I cross post most of my art to Ao3. One of my comics has over 100K hits there. More than I"ve gotten anywhere else! (I do devArt and lj too)

I've seen a few low word count stories that were quite good.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
They were pictures of texts on phones. I've also seen other multimedia stories that were quite good - epistolary with pictures of handwritten letters and the like.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Me too? I don't see the harm in it.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-13 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, sometimes people put art on AO3, and that accounts for low wordcount. Some of them forget to tag it as art, so low word count usually means it's a different media, not a pathetic troll fic.
