Honestly i think it's being realistic? Sure it's someone's life, but...people die.

Looking at his face, he obviously has something wrong with him. He doesn't even look human anymore, more like a really realistic depiction of a troll. So unless he is actually a troll, yeah, he's likely to die sometime not too far off.
