While I don't think this would be the plan from the start, I could very well see the creators do exactly that - changing the (very obviously hinted at) family connection for the next movies and pretending that it was planned all along, just to be able to say "Ha! Bet you didn't expect THAT, suckers!". Wouldn't be the first time something gets retconned into a red herring just to play the "we are so superior and lead you all on" card. Creators sometimes love to troll their audience.

As someone who watches Rebels, there's actually a few hints she might be Ezra Bridger's daughter. It's a theory that's been bouncing around fandom.

I can't really imagine them going that route because imo they can't just pull a character out of the hat that's not already known through the main franchise. Not everybody watches Rebels and it would be a hilariously bad move.
