I mean, most of everything is pretty lousy. I have better luck in manga because I know what authors to look for and what plots/characters work for me but if you're doing it for pay, it's not tailored to your taste. That said, I've thought for a long time that if I could edit manga translations for a living, I'd be set.

+1, I had a job in publishing in a field that I loved and I soon grew to hate it because it turned out that 99% of everything was shit and now it was my job to filter it. I moved to a similar job in a field I was less involved with and it was much better - 99% of everything was still shit but now I didn't care.
