Eliezer is such a grumpy, killjoy name. Like Ebenezer.

I don't see how being bothered by that implies that they didn't realize it from the start.

That doesn't mean it's not annoying and unpleasant to read, or any less a valid complaint.

If I wrote a fic that was just an excuse to rant about how horrible the character I hate is, would that suddenly becomes excusable or something people couldn't criticize just because I admitted it?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
^ this.

The worst kinds of fanfics are those ~edgy~ types that get a huge slobbering following with no attempt to critically question the hamfistedly OOC elements the author introduced to make the fic "go".

I'm thinking not only of HP&MOR but also DAYD (*blech*).

Haaaaaate DAYD. Hate it. Author tries so, so, so hard to set up Neville as this badass alpha male over whom all the girlies are drooling, including Ginny. THAT'S NOT WHY WE LOVE NEVILLE.

If Methods of Rationality is preachy bullshit
And preachy bullshit is bad
Then Methods of Rationality is bad

Counterargument: Methods of Rationality is supposed to be preachy bullshit
Conclusion: Methods of Rationality is supposed to be bad

Yeah, that doesn't really fly.

Agreed. Yes, the author intended it to be preachy. That doesn't make it okay because preachy writing is bad regardless of whether that was the intent or not.

Did something happen with this fic recently? Seems like it's a popular thing to make secrets about all of a sudden.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
It is fic. It's just bad fic.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-15 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just so glad to know there are people who hate this shit as much as I do.
