Yeah I've been in HP fandom since it first began (as a super lurker who contributed zero fics, fanart or meta etc of any kind. I just consumed it) and they've always been pretty judgmental. I think HP fandom tends to view themselves as special. They are the biggest fandom (although maybe not anymore I haven't really kept up) and everyone acts as if HP is the greatest book series that ever was. I don't agree with that but I will say HP was what got me into reading and writing and overall improved my life in many ways so it's special for me.

Oops accidentally posted this before I was done. Anyway, I think that many HP fans are in the same boat as me but they can't separate their fond feelings for actual quality books. I'll admit that I've tried to re-read HP and I actually struggle to find it interesting anymore.

The fandom has gotten more toxic in my opinion so in general I stay away. I left the fandom when people really started to hate on Lily and Ginny to the point where I couldn't avoid it. Sometime around the 5th or 6th book. I love both characters so I left and have never truly come back.

I think HP is definitely one of the best children's series out there, but I don't think it's the greatest thing that ever was, and I think people forget that just because something is objectively really good, doesn't mean everyone has to like it.

Yeah, HP was very important to me as a child and it's very special to me, and I think that's why so many people lose their heads.
