I kind of understand this. For a while in my late teens I thought I was going to go down the same road as my late grandmother, who also had depression and various personality issues and wound up being emotionally abusive to her husband and five kids.

The difference between me and her is I got help. She refused to her whole life.

The fact that you realize you may have the same tendencies as your father (assuming this isn't just something you worry about without any reason) already sets you apart from him, IMO.
