Re: small spoilers
My mind wouldn't automatically jump to 'racist'! Some might, as this IS fandom, but seeing as Finn/Poe is such a popular pairing I think that has to do with the lack of Finn/Rey; I bet Finn's race doesn't even enter the equation for most people.
I don't get giddy and fangirly over friends-to-lovers
Different strokes! I absolutely have and can, but I have to play it by ear; not every friendship is something I ship or see romantic chemistry in. Opinions, even my own, can vary wildly on this matter. (I do however think that in most cases friendship is a great basis for a romantic relationship, even if I'm not into the pairing itself.)
A commenter below mentioned that it's not that we should have NO romance at all, just better-written romance
IA with that as well. You (not YOU, general you!) can't realistically expect Hollywood to drop romance because Hollywood likes including romance, often even when inappropriate. Instead of just skipping the romance altogether (which isn't a bad thing in itself, and could benefit some films) I would rather have romances written in a more satisfying manner. Rey doesn't NEED to be in a relationship with someone, but if she does get a romantic arc, that won't automatically make her a lesser character. The writing could do her a disservice, but again, I feel like Disney are going to be careful with what's done with her, and if TFA is anything to go by, I think TPTB can handle it. Make it subtle, make it sweet, don't overdo it. That would make me happy.
