There are things that intrigue me about the books. But I can't get past the main character raping someone. I just can't. The villain of this series is actually the most intriguing thing to me. But I need someone to root for, and I can't root for a rapist.

Yeah, I tried to read it but I couldn't get past that point.

Welp, I'm definitely not reading these books now. I can't really get past heroes who do stuff like that - same with 'heroes' who torture people or commit murder, and they're portrayed as 'the good guys' so that makes it okay. I can't cheer on people like that.

But the main character is not really portrayed as a hero. I wouldn't go so far as anti-hero, but he's flawed and screwed up and does horrible things and sometimes ends up doing the right thing. It's a lot more complicated than did a bad thing = villain. The book may not be your thing, which is fine, but there is a lot more complexity to the character than that.
