What if he has a Vader-style deathbed redemption? I think that's the easiest way to redeem him - he was sorry, and then he died, thus avoiding the awkward "take responsibility for what you've done and earn back peopel's trust" stage of redemption. Honestly, if they do redeem him, that's the route I see them taking.

I don't want him redeemed really, but if it makes Leia happy then I'm all for it. That woman has been through too much.
