I didn't realise there were so many people who thought otherwise. Outside shameless smut, I don't think I've seen all that many people who wrote Genesis as anything but a self-important weirdo with a monomania about That One Play.

You really have a fucked up reading of Genesis if you thought he hated both of them. The entire point was that he cared deeply for them, but came to resent Sephiroth for something out of his own control--and Sephiroth wanted to help and didn't know how to, while Genesis self-destructed over everything because he was irrationally blaming Sephiroth for... Not doing anything.

It's a tale of how friendly rivalries could go horribly fucking wrong. If you got out of that that Genesis hated Angeal and Sephiroth, you need to play again.

This.

Also, he and Angeal are childhood friends? Who grew up together? Who joined the army together? That's all literally canon, come on. Same as his friendship with Sephiroth.

Also, where is this magical corner on the interwebs/fandom where he's the fandom's "darling" because that sure as hell flew past my radar out of all my years playing the bastard.

I think the poster played a different game called Crisis Core.

*squints*

Is this Genesis? Because he annoyed the ever-loving crap out of me, seriously I just wanted him to go away and got so frustrated that he kept turning up. WHY WOULDN'T YOU LET ME KILL HIM GAME FFS.

pff I love this secret. I love how annoyed you are.
I am less bothered by Genesis because I never actually played CC, but my impression is that your characterization is closer to what he was actually like in canon. I think he's become a wish-fulfillment character, people make him into what they wanted him to be, or what they thought he could have been.

They're not. They're so off-base it's kind of cringeworthy. I've played it and am super confused as to how they missed his character in general.

He's not the best written character, I'll definitely admit that even though I RP him but the poster is really far off-base. As the anon said, it's cringeworthy.

I barely remember CC since I played it so long ago, but no, this characterization is not what he was like in canon.

I... what?

Other than being completely off-base like above commenters have pointed out, please tell me where I can find this mystical corner of the Internet where he is the fandom darling. Because seriously, the Genesis "fandom" pretty much consists of one fic writer, a few other people and a shoelace last I checked.
