I'm just the opposite... I'm glad I didn't know, and glad that he and his family were able to maintain the privacy they so clearly wanted and deserved, which is a tough thing to do in this era. They've known for 18 months, I believe the news said... that would've been 18 months of me worrying daily if TODAY was the day his death would be announced. It would've tainted my enjoyment of his new album.

Instead, I found out that he spent the last years of his life exactly as how he wanted it, and that he was happy, creative and reveling in new music until the end. Aside from him living forever, I could not wish for a better ending for a person whose work has meant so much to me.
