I did manage to miss this piece of information for a surprisingly long time. Admittedly, my relationship with the work extended to "Hamilton. A musical about a historical figure? Doesn't interest me at all, but good for them".

I didn't find about about the casting until much, much later. It didn't change my initial assessment.

This. I'm not really into plays and musicals and don't follow news about them. I'm also not that much into American history, so a musical about Alexander Hamilton wouldn't really grab my attention at all.
