Just clarifying, because judging by some of the comments I really wasn't clear enough (There wasn't a lot of space...) :

I understand why he didn't tell anyone. I do not for one second think I deserved to know. I don't even think he SHOULD have told anyone, it would have been a media circus, as someone else pointed out. But I still can't help wishing I'd known. That's why the secret says it's an irrational feeling.

Oh, OP, I totally get it! It's irrational but that was my first thought too--why didn't he tell us?!

And then you're like wait he doesn't even know me

IMO that was totally clear in your original secret, OP!

I understood, OP. Your secret was clear, and frankly, reactions to death aren't always rational or fair, because DEATH isn't rational and fair. After the announcement hit the news, I did wonder if it'd been better to know. Normally I prefer to know bad news in advance if possible. But not in this case, I think. I think in this case, ignorance was bliss.

I got that, OP. I don't think you're uncaring or entitled. It hurts to be blindsided by sudden loss, and I understand that like many people, you'd prefer to be prepared for it/braced for it in advance.
