I'm not sure if you're embarrassed to admit that you don't know his work, but it's easier than ever to go find out what the big deal is. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't but if it's weirding you out that everybody's going on about an artist you're not familiar with, why not take the chance to explore?

Yes, but they don't have to. Sorry. I like Bowie, but I am bonkers about him> Labyrinth sucked, let's be honest, and a lot of his early music, the stuff produced because he was trying to screw his contract, is deliberately crap, and he's a guy who would deliberately write crap as covert aggression.

I'm sorry the man's gone, and I recognize his legacy and all, but you know what? There's SO MUCH in the world to learn, that if someone chooses not to drink the Bowie Kool AId, just, you know, respect that choice?

Of course they don't have to. They also don't have to make a secret about it? If they've thought about it enough to note that they've never heard his music, that would take about 2 minutes to rectify.
