The excuse I see most often when it comes to lusting over underage animated characters is "s/he doesn't LOOK like a kid!"

Yeah, that went over well when I was 12 and my breasts and figure was very developed for my age and got hit on by older boys repeatedly. Ugh.

Yep, lusting away. They DO look like a kid. That's a big part of what I like.

Not hurting anyone, and if you're afraid someone else's imagination is tainting the purity of your show, just remember that I'm imagining them having sex, and you're imagining them running a dogfighting ring, so I don't think either of our imaginations has the high ground here.

They're not a pedophile, and that is an important distinction to make, but their interest can certainly be described as pedophilic.

So yeah, not criminal but still creepy.

I don't think that's the case. As far as I'm aware, a pedophile is someone who is attracted to children regardless if they've acted upon that attraction or not.

Though applying real life standards to fictional characters, especially drawn or written, is pretty laughable.

And pedophilic is a descriptive word meaning "of or related to pedophilia." Being attracted to a child, whether real or fictional, is pedophilic by definition.

A person with a particular pedophilic interest may be a pedophile or they may not be. If their pedophilic interest is in sexually touching real children, they their actions are the actions of a pedophile. OTOH, if their pedophilic interest is limited to something as relatively innocuous as imagining themself sexually touching a fictional child, then I don't feel the term pedophile fits.

But denying the applicability of the word pedophilic in such an instance is simply dishonest.

Oh man... you say that, and it reminds me of the (then) 30-something woman I hung out with on the Internet 10+ years ago who perved on Ash harder than I did.

I was 14 at the time and didn't find it skeevy. Now I'm 26 and erugh why did I even talk to her?? Why did she talk to ANY teens about it???? I'm lucky she never linked me to any porn.

I'm guessing that at the time, when you were 14, you were trying to act all grown up and cool about sex and that she believed you when you told her you were fine about it.

She still shouldn't have done it, but I've been in a slightly similar position - a 16-year-old reading my adult fic and trying to engage me in conversation and send me links to porn. It's not a situation you want to be in the first place.
