that might be because he had a vehicular accident after the initial Star Wars film and they had to reconstruct his face. Look at Return of the Jedi and see how they use camera angles. Some scars are visible in Empire.

Accidents do a number then when it happens, and as you age. He came out pretty good, considering.

Yeah, he did, didn't he? I know I remeber seeing his face being a bit more pock marked in RotJ.

I remember hearing about that car accident, but I never knew the details. I thought that happened after the trilogy though.

Yeah, he's not BAD looking. He just looks...like a different person.

The reason for the cave scene at the start of Empire was to justify the scars on his face.

No, it was definitely during the trilogy. I read about in Tiger Beat or one of those magazines so it might even have been before Empire--by Jedi I had outgrown those magazines.

Hamill said recently on twitter that the "they had to rebuild half his face!" Story was way overblown. Just a broken nose.

His upper lip is incredibly puffy in ESB, his left eye has a permanent droop, and his cheeks looked more sallow (pretty sure he shattered a cheekbone). There's no way it was just a broken nose.
