My mom had a TBI years ago, so her balance is odd a lot of the time. These days she will only wear hand made hiking style shoes so that she can fit her orthotics in them and not have to worry about wearing shoes that will make her balance worse.

That's rough. My mom has knee problems and has fallen several times. Are the hiking shoes really helpful? I might get her some after her knee surgery if they are.

My mom finds them helpful, but I'm no physiotherapist. If your mom needs shoes with space for a brace or whatnot, I think that's probably the ticket.
