I think Anakin/Padmé is very well acted, actually.

It's deliberately awkward and I really enjoy their interactions. YMMV.

I think that's an interesting reading but I think "deliberate" is a very strong claim to be making here.

I mean, I don't know how else you're supposed to see scenes like

"So have you...grown more beautiful I mean. Well, for a Senator I mean!"

And then she just smiles awkwardly and says "Annie, you'll always be that little boy I knew on Tatooine." to shut him down.

It's just very deliberately awkward. The script also says that Anakin's embarrassed.

Obi-Wan even comments on how much Anakin is sweating before they meet Padmé.

I'll back you up just a little here. I didn't hate their performances the whole way through and generally I'm tired of the faux-consenses about the prequels.
