SAME. I'm honestly shocked at all the overreaction and ship-bashing going on. Especially when Hux/Kylo exists. I mean, I ship that, but what makes that any less fucked up than Reylo?

I think these people haven't been in fandom long if they don't understand that hero/villian ships are a Thing. Like, they clearly weren't around for Phantom of the Opera or Labyrinth fandoms. Or Harry Potter, for that matter.

Generally, the Hux/Kylo side of fandom doesn't even try to pretend that it's not fucked up. I ignore Reylo and everything connected to it, but it sounds like there are some Reylo shippers who pretend their ship is not fucked up? So I guess that's the difference.

There are Reylo shippers who do that and then go as far as to go on about how Kylo respects Rey more than Finn does, seriously.

good grief >______>

I think some people are just being a little overly defensive since some other shippers were attacking them for being abusive. More of that moral highground nonsense. THERE ARE NO CONFIRMED SHIPS I DON'T DON'T UNDERSTAND ALL THE BASHING.

... That is so weird. Kylo doesn't respect her, he is afraid of her power and what she represents (and he's angry. Damn angry.)

In meta or in fic? Because I went on a brief hunt for Hux/Kylo and found a whole trove of soulbonding fluffy total sap for poor misunderstood woobie boys.

Both, but I thought we were mostly talking about the meta of how shippers perceive themselves. And most fluffy Kylux stuff (of which there isn't nearly as much as you imply, at least not where I've looked) is either crack or written as whump, which is not the same as "poor misunderstood". There are exceptions, of course, but in my experience with the fandom, there are far more "look we know they're evil but we ship'em anyways" and "evil space husbands" and "don't feel sorry for them, they brought it upon themselves" type of stories. (I have read a lot in the ship lately.)

I have been in fandom that long and the ships in those fandoms grossed me out too. Erik/Christine and Sarah/Jareth have always been totally skeevy to me.

Same, never liked those pairings, but... again, why bash people over it? Shippers gonna ship. It's the "Your ship is problematic!" that bug me. Like, of course it's problematic, that's part of the appeal for people.

I don't mind it much when people acknowledge it's problematic (that word hahaha), but in my experience, many fans idealize these relationships and think of them as romantic and even healthy.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Why does anyone need to rationalize their ship for you though? It's not like they're forcing you to ship it with them.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
That's being in fandom for more than long enough to realize no1curr.

Well I mean, obviously people do care.
