What happened to Deb?

SPOILERS

In the series finale she's shot in the stomach. She gets rushed into surgery, but comes out of it okay. Then suddenly near the end, they go "Oh no she's actually just gone into a comatose state and has little brain activity."

So while everyone in the city is distracted by the hurricane about to make landfall, Dexter sneaks into her hospital room, unhooks her life support, wraps her up in her hospital bed sheet, puts her on his boat, drives straight into the hurricane, and dumps Deb's body into the ocean.

It's all exactly as stupid, ridiculous, and disrespectful to her character as it sounds.
