Re: Research question: US taxes

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2016-01-23 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, SPECIFICALLY NEW YORK STATE tax forms, then - which the anon above helpfully provided for you. In the future, the best place to find filing information is on official government sites (usually ending in a .gov) for the specific state in question. Those in Canada should still be able to access state tax forms for any state in the US, including New York. If you are unable to access the instructions or find the answer you are looking for, calling a state tax toll-free customer service line for assistance (if it is available for that state) may be beneficial. The website for New York is https://www.tax.ny.gov . If you were questioning Federal tax filing requirements, the website for that is irs.gov. Publication 17 and the Form 1040 instructions both have information about federal filing requirements. Both documents can be found online at irs.gov.

I don't know what type of research you are doing, so that's the most comprehensive answer I can give at this time. If this is personal research to determine your requirement to file US taxes, then more information would need to be provided in order to assist you properly. If this research is for something else, then the information provided should get you started down the right path.
