I can’t figure out why fandom artists have such a hard time drawing armpit hair. Especially when they draw pubes on the same drawing! Is it gross to them? Do they imagine most guys (and girls, but not drawing armpit hair on modern girls make more sense) regularly shave anyway?

Armpit hair is my kink.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
But how do you feel about braided arm pit hair?

I feel you, OP! (Especially as somebody who also likes to see armpit hair on women, ahem...)

I for one am glad about the lack of armpit hair. For some reason it really grosses me out, as does a lot of body hair in general. IDK. Just not my thing.

the answer to OP's question "do they find it gross?" is probably yes.

because a lot of us also do.

Pubes are fine, leg hair is fine, but armpit hair is Do Not Want. Probably in a large part because my pits get nasty and sweaty and stinky if I let my pit hair grow, so I can't see it as anything other than gross.

Armpit hair is gross and smelly. Everyone should shave just to keep the stink down.
bur: Mami looking kind of surprised at something off to the side. (Surprised Mami)

Not really? Just buy a good deodorant. My armpit hair is soft, fluffy, and clean thank you very much. Though I do shave it if I'm wearing something sleeveless, because it's not worth other people pretending they're not staring.

Just so you know

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Not true for everyone. One of the reasons I stopped shaving was because I sweat (and consequently, stink) a lot less when I *don't* shave.

MTE it bothers me more than I care to admit.
I actually find armpit hair the hottest thing on girls, especially if it's thick and dark. (I'm a girl too and refuse to shave if not necessary)

Probably a bit from column a and a bit from column b.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
body hair is one of those detail elements that's really easy to mess up and make the whole picture look weird.

i've seen people draw leg hair as these thick dark lines on legs... and that's just not what hair looks like.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
It does on some.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Eeehh, that is fine by me. Pubes are fine, and can even be sexy. And general body hair is ok too. But armpit hair grosses me out so much on both men and women. I know, social beauty norms are bad etc but I honestly wish it was a standard, socially accepted thing for everyone to shave it... since in my experience it's usually only women, and I'm more attracted to men. WHOOPS

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
1.) aesthetics

2.) it's hard for most people to draw body hair in a way that doesn't weirdly over-dominate the character or just plain look bad, in my experience

(Anonymous) 2016-01-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, this. it's rare that an artist can render armpit or leg hair in a way that doesnt look jarring and unnecessary, especially if the character's design is pretty simple and understated otherwise.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
What everyone else has said, but also? They may have genuinely no idea what it looks like if they haven't purposely gone looking. And some people don't even consider hair their, they just automatically go for hairless without even a thought. I've noticed it's a cultural thing.

I don't get it either, especially if the person in canon is very hairy, and the hair gets drawn, just not on the armpits. It's kind of weird.

It also bothers me when people have "inaccurate" shaved places. Like, "Okay, in this time period/part of the world, people did not shave. WHY ARE THEY HAIRLESS?"

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
No one has addressed the remaining question, and my answer is "yes." I am way more likely to shave my armpits regularly than shave my pubes, for a lot of reasons including a) it makes the deodorant go on easier and b) armpit hair sticks out of my shirts when it gets too long.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
Armpit hair is probably difficult to draw and make look good. I'm not an artist, but he relief of the armpit and hair growth patterns there look more complicated to me than legs or pubes or chests.
Related complaint though: it really bothers me when people draw body hair as fur tufts, thick and straight like head hair. It just looks like the character has a strip of faux fur stuck to their crotch or armpit.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
in anime fandoms or elsewhere? because it's not in the source material for 99% of anime and seems weird to add

conversely, we never really see the pubic regions of most characters so they could have/not have hair and it's all up to the artist

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
From an artist: body hair is hella hard to draw without it looking weird/out of place/plain bad. That's it, probably.
