Oh, I'm pretty new to Mass Effect (I only started playing it last year) and I've only played through the entire trilogy once so far.

Right now I'm trying to force myself to finish playing through the first game again because I want to get all the trophies, but IMO it's the most boring one so this is very difficult for me, haha! So I keep playing for like an hour, getting bored & then switching to something else. I can't wait to play the other games again, though, they're great (especially the characters)!

I'm pretty new to it myself! My first trilogy run was sometime in early 2015, and I beat all three games in about a month because I became hopelessly obsessed. And then like two months later, and played through them all again. And again. I have a problem.

I loved the first one, but it could get SUPER grindy in places. I'm weird, and I find boring grinding to be soothing, but I can see how it'd bother others.

Playing through the trilogy again is like meeting up with old friends, I love everyone on the Normandy so much.

Whenever I play games, I always feel compelled to do absolutely everything available to me, so I definitely don't mind grinding when it's the first time I'm going through it all! On following playthroughs it really starts getting to me though, haha.

It's funny, I never felt strongly about the characters as they were in ME1, but by the end I really, genuinely cared about them all (to the point where ME3 made me cry a couple times). The ME2 cast is my favourite, for sure, though I still wish I could choose not to work with Cerberus!

I'm also still trying to figure out who to romance in the second game with my dude!Shepard. It'll probably be Tali because she's in both games, but I also like Jack a hell of a lot. Have you done either of their romances?

ME3 made me cry a couple times

My first time playing ME3, I was either in stitches from laughing so hard or crying like a baby. It was a roller-coaster ride for me, so I feel ya, man.

I haven't done either of their romances, but I've heard that Jack gets A LOT of character development if she's your LI. Tali's adorable, though. It's honestly really hard to choose who to romance because I personally wanted to romance everyone (and I was so annoyed that they didn't let me romance more than one character at a time).

Man, ME3 is such a good game aside from the ending, haha. I'm also super psyched to play the Citadel DLC for the first time, since I only just bought it. I've heard such good things!

I'm with you on wanting to romance everyone! In my first run I romanced Kaidan (sooort of by accident, tbh, starting romances in ME1 is crazy vague), then switched to Garrus for the rest of it. I'd actually be a bit wary about romancing Jacob now, though, since he apparently cheats on you in the third game no matter what?

Yuuup, if you go after Jacob, he'll knock someone else up and dump you. I've heard that apparently Bioware did this because there wasn't a lot of people that romanced him? It's bullshit.

Garrus tho...

ME1 is the one that's closest to Bioware's roots in their old D&D properties Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, which is the main reason why combat is such a drag. It's also a significantly older game, coming out in 2007, which is why the map design is a bit under-detailed.

The oldest Bioware game I own is Jade Empire (because it was free), so I'm definitely not used to the style!

I think my main problem is that it almost seems like it's pretending to be a bigger game than it really is, I guess? Most of side-quests are the exact same thing over and over and over again, making it such a chore to complete them all (which I don't have to do, of course, but it still sucks when you don't want to play such a large part of the game).

Everyone is dead. Everyone. Those aren't distress signals, those are we-are-dead-as-door-nails signals.

Land on a planet, fumble around on the Mako for a couple minutes, kill a group of husks/geth/biotics/evil aliens, leave & repeat 50 more times.
