I come at it from a slightly different angle.

It's not that I look down on people who solely read YA stuff. But it's that I'm more impressed by people who take the time to digest "difficult" books with more sophisticated layering and messaging.

If you just read YA books, I'm still glad that you're reading, and respect you for it. I don't look down on you at all. I just don't hold you in the relatively high esteem that I do people who can sit down and get their teeth into books by Murakami or Tolstoy.
