What's not funny or creative anymore?

[personal profile] sparrow_lately 2016-01-24 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Besides: Leo never gets Oscars, bear rape, Benedict Cumberbatch looks like an alien (I'm as sick of him as anyone, but stop beating a dead horse). What other internet/fs/general stock jokes and replies make you just roll your eyes these days?

TL;DR: somehow a rumor got started that Leonardo DiCaprio's character in "The Revenant" gets raped by a bear as a plot point. Some poor motherfucker from Fox had to go on record disabusing us all of the notion.

Some Republican moral guardian claimed that the Leo movie involved him being raped by a bear and the rest of the Republican media lead with it rather than fact checking because clickbait and moral outrage. Everyone seeds the headlines, nobody sees the retractions or the articles explaining why it was wrong.

I can't imagine bears raping people is even a real thing.

Calling Star Wars "A Star War" because of that line from Arrested Development that got screencapped and circulated when the movie came out. All my friends were saying "I'm gonna see a Star War tomorrow!" and it drove me crazy.

"I guess we're not allowed to tell people ___" or "I guess I'm not allowed to have an opinion"

Yes, you're fucking allowed. You will not be arrested for it. But if you use your opinion to harass or personally attack another person or if you say something rude and the person reacts negatively then sorry that's the consequences of your actions.

When people interpret negative consequences as not being 'allowed' to do something they come across as pampered dipshits. Speech comes with consequences, even when it's free.

Or when they pull this when the only "consequence" was people disagreeing or presenting different perspectives. Other people are allowed to have opinions, too! No one is being not "allowed" to have one just because other people exercised that same freedom!

THIS.

Although there is the alternative, i.e. "your opinion isn't valid. End of story."

Um... how do you even know how to argue if you won't listen to what the other side thinks?

"But if you use your opinion to harass or personally attack another person"

I think the point is that if you have the wrong opinion, or just sound like you have the wrong opinion people use that to harass and personally attack you. and because you dared to say the wrong thing you totally deserve it.

Lord, yes. I'm seeing that argument a lot in political debates lately in particular and it makes me want to tear my hair out.

God, this.

People referencing that one user when anyone talks about OCs. No they are not the only person ever to have OCs or mention them.

It wasn't even clever when it started and now it's even more annoying.

Re: What's not funny or creative anymore?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Is the person really still on about that? That's obsessive to disturbing levels. Unless it's multiple trolls building off of it.

But yeah, I talk about OCs sometimes as well.

Re: What's not funny or creative anymore?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah looks like. Could be multiple people, which would be even worse.

They're not that much different form any other aspect of fic, really. And it's not hard to backbutton out when an OC shows up or to avoid fics tagged with "OC". Certainly doesn't warrant this level of obsessive hatred.

This. I don't think the troll is serious, per se, they're just being obtuse so they can be an asshole to Dani.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-25 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm laughing because 'that user' hasn't even been mentioned the last few times OC's have been mentioned. Sounds like you're hung up on it.

It used to happen a lot in the past and this person has been really obsessive about it for a while. It's a little creepy even still.

A lot of people are tired of it.

"I see what you did there"
"Well played, X. Well played."
Demotivators, I really just cringe when I see people using them now
Honestly everything slapped in impact over otherwise amusing or cute images. Everything doesn't have to be "memeified" in order to be funny or memorable, and generally I find it makes the image less funny than it'd be otherwise.

A lot of SJW/Anti-SJW things (like this whole "down with cis" bullshit).

In terms of fandom: It's not even that old but I'm already sick of it: "Kylo Ren is an MRA stand-in" and "lolol Hot Topic; Evanescence listening emo Kylo Ren". It's so damn bland and unfunny (and I'm not even a huge Kylo Ren fan).

Re: What's not funny or creative anymore?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-24 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, even before TFA, it seems like it's been popular to take any male villain (or, really, any male character you don't like) and essay about how he's a symbol of "toxic masculinity" and then "LOLOLMRA" memefy him.

"Adam Driver is ugly!"

Seriously, it's like he's slowly becoming the next Benedict Cumberbatch in terms of how ugly/weird looking people find him.
