Good YA recs

The discussion yesterday gave me the idea to ask... What are your recs for YA that doesn't focus too heavily on melodramatic love triangles or other badly done tropes? For the sake of argument, let's limit the discussion to works that are less than 15 years old.

- The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. I'm not usually a romance person, but somehow I liked how it was written here. I found the characters very engaging.

- The Hunger Games. I still contend that the supposed "love triangle" is misunderstood.

Yes to Hunger Games. The movies played up that angle a bit, but even in the movies Katniss wasn't at all focused on romance. In the end she chooses to be with Peeta for a variety of reasons. But it never was about a love triangle and her story is about so much more. The romance angle is more of an afterthought. And it seemed like she didn't really have romantic feelings at all for anyone until a few points in the last book where she realized she cared for Peeta.

Graceling - it's not perfect, but I rather enjoyed it. There are some plotting weaknesses, but the world is interesting and the MCs are cute, and iirc there is no love triangle.

Seraphina - not sure if this qualifies exactly as YA? But it's cool. It's about humanity trying to sustain their (recently achieved) treaty with dragonkind (who can transform into human forms). I really enjoyed it.

The focus is more on the fantasy worlds than the romances and I find Riptide's books are usually extremely well-written.

This is my genre and I got REALLY in to it last year and basically couldn't put YA down at all. So here's my top picks.

Partials by Dan Wells. Post-apocalypse trilogy that is really well done. Someone on FS recommended it to me and I'm so glad they did.

Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. Deals with a teenager who is going through a rough time and how she comes out of her shell.

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley. A YA adventure about a friend who is slowly finding her place which happens to be out of this world.

Not sure if this is YA, but I loved A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab. It's sort of like Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere set it 1800s London.

This is what Happy Looks like by Jennifer E. Smith. I loved this story about an actor meeting someone on location and how they become friends.

Feel free to bug me for more and I can pick more based on what you like.

Hold Still, by Nina LaCour. It's about a girl whose best friend committed suicide and she's having trouble coping with the loss. Heartbreaking but really well written.
