I congratulate you on your excellent taste, OP.

Edit: but yeah like nonny below mentioned, I don't see the sexism.

Oh fuck off.

Fuck off for liking yanderes? I can see why OP is keeping their admiration of the trope a secret then.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-25 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe because they're always one-note & terribly written? Or because they only ever exist to be really weird fanservice? IDK.

They're not exclusively female though. OP even mentioned the f/f and m/m yandere cases, so it's strange that they would believe it's sexist.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-27 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
NGL, when someone mentions yandere I always think of Eddie Gluskin from Outlast.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-25 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
...How is yandere sexist?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Because they obsessively follow their target character, which makes them similar to the "psycho ex-girlfriend" trope.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
You know there's a trope for everything, right?

The hell are you talking about? Men and women can both be crazy stalkers. How is it sexist to write stories about women stalkers but not male stalkers.

Ugh, characters like that are the wooorst, Yuno especially.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-25 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I like when an obsessive female character is shown as just as dangerous as a guy. And people treat them like they're a dangerous threat. Not just a 'crazy girl'.

I'm tired of the obsessive female character being waved off as harmless because she's a girl and thus cannot be a threat. I hate seeing anybody who's her victim treated as pathetic for being afraid unless that person mocking them is proven wrong. I want to see threatening female characters who people are intimidated by. Who the victim (male of female) is looked at with understanding instead of derision because "HOLY SHIT SHE"S TERRIFYING and anyone with a functioning brain would be afraid of that"

I'm tired of the whole "teehee it's so unexpected that she can be a killer because she's a girl and girls are by nature innocent little things."

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, that last one can be played very well BECAUSE that's the expectation, and it bashes up against that belief.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
people keep asking dan and phil to play a game about this theme...i kind of hope they don't.

considering dan has admitted (half jokingly, but only half) to "stalking" phil and becoming his friend, the implications get gross quick

he's also pretty possessive and jealous and I just hate for them to play a game making it seem funny / cool to be a crazy jealous stalker. their fans can get intense enough.

i just hope they resist.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
They're better than tsunderes, at least.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
They're way worse than tsunderes. At least tsunderes respect themselves. Yanderes are kind of repulsively driven by their psychotically narrow interests.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Tsunderes don't respect themselves. They just pretend to, up until they think the people they've pretended not to like might actually dislike them for real. Then all they do is cry and cling and beg for them not to leave because they love them and their life is meaningless without them.

I like to think of this girl being the gender reversed version of the tree climber in secret 8.

Only, she's not afraid. She's coming with a chainsaw.

Run, little apples.

Run.

Okay, that's funny.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I so perfectly pictured it my head and thought, "I bet there's some anime like that somewhere."

Re: Okay, that's funny.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-01-27 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, probably. If not anime, then some hentai somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I like psychpathic characters so yandere is a trope I enjoy often. I hate it though when it's used treated as just a cute quirk and the sole defining trait of a character, such as in most otaku pandered anime and manga. It's also why it's mostly female characters. And yeah there's also the element of sexism like an anon above said, but like most tropes it's more the usage than the definition.

There definitely need to be more yandere male characters and other genders. A shame that otome games usualy have the yandere male characters and I get bored with them very quick.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I HATE yandere characters (female or male). They've driven me nuts since what's her name, the boar on Fruits Basket. But I love tsundere characters, which is also a terrible type, so to each their own! :)

(Anonymous) 2016-01-26 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
...I am 99% sure there are male yanderes. It's just they're just called "possessive."

(Anonymous) 2016-02-03 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
They turned Lizzie Borden into an anime character?
