With The Old Breed by Eugene Sledge is one of the best war memoirs ever written. I've probably read it five times.

A World Undone by G.J. Meyer is an excellent account of The First World War.

Ann Rule is great for true crime, especially The Stranger Beside Me. Also Fatal Vision by Joe Mcinniss.
