Washington DC People, LEND ME YOUR EARS!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-01-26 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
My first full day in DC will be spent going to all the monuments and Arlington Cemetery. Would it be better to see the monuments or Arlington in the morning? I ask because there is a specific restaurant I want to eat at that day that requires a reservation. So. I will have like 2-3 hours in the morning, go eat lunch at this place, then spend the rest of the day doing the other half.

I have them separated into those two groups because Arlington is a bit away from everything else.

Monuments are going to take a while, especially if you do the ones that aren't right there on that corridor around the Reflecting Pool (Jefferson, FDR, etc.), so maybe do that when you have more time- or even intersperse a museum or two in between so you're not just trudging around in the cold.

Also, and I truly cannot recommend this enough: Boy Scout Memorial. It is off the beaten path and HILARIOUS.

I was leaning towards Arlington first! Well, we will be going to museums but that will be on the following days.

I'll add that to your google map. :D The pictures are a bit...odd.

*Googles "US boy scout memorial"*

That's... interesting!

I would probably go Arlington -> lunch -> everything else, myself! 2-3 hours isn't really enough time to see all the other monuments (plus I'd assume at least one museum trip will be in there?).

No museum trips that day! We have several more days for museums (I'll be there for a week). :D

Oh, nice! I'd still probably suggest Arlington first, though, since even just the monuments can be a little time-consuming, haha.

If you don't mind my asking, what restaurant? I'm curious if I know it.

La Chaumiere (the only super fancy one we will be going to). We want to eat a souffle and they have chocolate ones. And we want to go to lunch because they have a smaller steak option.

Oooh, heard of it, but never been. It looks wonderful, though. Damn my lack of funds!

Yeah, it is one of the restaurants we are going to splurge on. Hopefully we don't have to be super dressed up.

Arlington first. The monuments actually never close. When we went for Memorial Day weekend it was too overwhelmingly hot to do the memorials in the afternoon, so we did them in the morning but didn't have enough time to make it to the Jefferson, so we went back at night (after dinner) and it was absolutely gorgeous!

They light up the memorials so I'd almost say do it twice. You have the time for it.

We will be in that area a lot so we will probably see a bunch at night as well!
