Re: Game recs? Game recs!

If you have access to the app store, you might want to give Pathways Into Darkness a try. It's free, but it's a pretty tough game (comparable to, say, dungeon crawlers of the time!) It is, however, pretty story-heavy for an early 90s FPS game (partly due to also including adventure game elements) and serves as a prequel of sorts to Marathon, which was Bungie's big FPS series before Halo and Destiny. Here's a guide!

You're actually luckier than me in this regard, by the way -- PID was never ported to PC so in order for me to play it I had to download an old-school Mac emulator. :(

Speaking of Marathon... All three games are available for free across all three platforms. The story in the trilogy is really in-depth and there's a 20-year cottage industry of people analyzing it.

Mind you, these are all old-school FPS games, so there's no shame in putting the difficulty on easy and referring to a guide. I also recommend going into preferences->environments->plugins and disabling anything that looks like a texture upgrade or HD pack if you don't want to wait ages for stuff to load, though this is one of those rare examples where a texture upgrade doesn't completely destroy the atmosphere of the game.
