'Quantum' by Manjit Kumar. It's about the early development of quantum physics, and it's beautiful. Very accessible, and it makes the process of working through a problem and arriving at the solution feel absolutely breathtaking.

'Destiny of the Republic' by Candice Millard. It's about the election and subsequent death of James Garfield. Spends about as much time delving into the mind of his assassin as it does on him. Very interesting, engaging read.

The one about James Garfield sounds pretty interesting. Is it in paperback?

Checked Amazon, and it is indeed!
