On Daily Show, they posited that it's because Islam is a younger religion and that the time frame matches up with around when Christianity was doing the whole Inquisition thing.

So they're basically admitting Islam in the modern age is the equivalent of where Christianity was hundreds of years ago. But say "Islam is medieval" and then you're called 'Islamophobic'.

because Islamophobia has strong ties to racism and saying a culture/religion is "medieval" is about on par with saying a society is "primitive," which is, insulting and ridiculous. saying Islam is at the same stage as Christianity was isn't the same as saying it's medieval.

If you're whipping people for leaving the religion or dismissing attempts to criminalize child marriage as being "un-Islamic" then I'm going to call a spade a spade.

What is your definition for Islamophobia anyways? Does it cover all opposition to Islam?
