Ha ha I hardly ever watched the show, but I remember that thing about Sailor Moon. I remember a scene where the those two are touching hands and blushing and it's very emotionally charged and one of the other characters is like "ISN'T IT NICE HOW THOSE COUSINS ARE SO CLOSE?" I liked to pretend the other characters were just really, really oblivious.

I had a thought that, in-universe, calling someone your cousin was just the go-to label when the character didn't want to really explain who they were. Same thing happened with Serena saying Rini was her cousin and vice-versa. The obliviousness is definitely not far-fetched, though.

I still get a chuckle out of that.

Of course, dub companies being oblivious I know is not a new thing. You can change the dialogue, but the animation will win out. (And I still get a kick out of the fact that apparently making lesbians incestual somehow makes it less offensive? Bwahaha.)

I don't think the dubbers themselves are oblivious, so much as trying to get crap past the radar.

The problem is, all that censoring did was take two lesbian's and make them two lesbians in an incestuous relationship. Yeah they were a little less overt about it, but they were cousins, of course they were trying to hide it! (badly)
