Really? I'm having a hard time thinking of more than a couple fandoms who will touch ships involving older men, especially if there is also the option to ship two younger men together even though they've maybe spoken once in fandom versus the older guy and the younger guy being partners or best friends or something.

I do agree that fandom is racist, and I think it's more than a "bit more", it's a huge problem unfortunately. :(

With this particular secret though, I can definitely see why secret!OP is upset. Sam and Michael get a lot of subtext together, which would have fans chomping at the bit if Sam were portrayed by a younger man.

I think it largely depends on the fandom you're in and the demographic of people in it, but yeah I see a lot of drooling over older men in fandom, maybe because I'm older myself and watch series with older men, but I see it a lot.

I mean just down thread you have people who PREFER Sam to Michael (and I would count myself among them.) So maybe part of it is that people who find Sam attractive don't also find Michael attractive?

I mean I agree it is weird that there are so few fans of it and there are probably times where the shallow factor comes into play, but I can also buy that some people legitimately prefer hate ships because hate ships are really popular.
